Five for Friday

Addie was sick most of this week, so we didn’t make the usual rounds. It was tough to keep her calm in the house all day, so we still made it out for exciting field trips like the “wash car.”

1. I was proofing a project and read this:
No cut-off jeans or any other apparel, which tends to fray, is permitted to be worn in the pool or spa.

Naturally, I thought of this. I sure do miss Arrested Development watch parties on Mondays.

2. I really want to be on the York Peppermint Patty train because Clayton loves them. But every time I bite into one, I pretty much have this realization:

IMG_0490

I also wasted (invested?) a solid hour of my life on that account this week. Making sarcastic cards for a living is what one might call nirvana for me.

3. This week was the second time I used the Walmart grocery pick-up service and maybe it’s how I will buy the majority of our groceries until the end of time forever and ever amen. Or until my children don’t require multiple restraints and bribery to make it through a shopping trip without incident. It’s especially convenient for bulky items like diapers, cases of bottled water and detergent, which I literally have to carry around the store in one hand because there’s no space when I have Asher or both kids. First world problem to the max, but whatevs, throw it right there in the back of my SUV while I instagram this latte, thank you very much.

4. When dinosaurs and awkward torsos attack.

5. When it’s so far past their bedtime you ignore that they’re recreating the EXACT scenario that appears on the warning label.

(The top wasn’t on and it was sideways…I’m not that cray, guys.)

We are hoping to break in the kayak this weekend and suffer through another lackluster Florida State performance. Don’t even get me started on the Dolphins or the delusional fan that shares my home. Happy Friday the 13th!

Five for Friday

This week was a typical blend of fun, work and tantrums, with a little mini fall fashion shopping trip thrown into the mix. Even though it’s 88 degrees. I’m tryyyyyying, promise.

1. Hello, lovers.

2. On Monday night I asked Addison what she wanted to do the next day. Without hesitation she said, “I want to go somewhere fancy and wear a pretty dress.” So that’s what we did. Despite the warning that fancy places involve a lot of sitting still and being calm, it was still a challenge to keep the butt in that pretty dress in the fancy seat for the entirety of our brunch. But there was spinning and browsing and grass lying, and it was one of my most favorite mornings.

3. And then dinos! Any time we hang out with people, the friends are all about the stuff, and Addie is all about the friends. It works well.

4. I really hope reefermane was sober enough to evaluate DC’s hammy accurately by his bowling technique. And also, STOP BOWLING AND KEEP FOAM ROLLING, DALVIN.

5. Are you watching “Black-ish?” Clayton and I love it. This week’s episode about white and black church was particularly amusing since we can totally relate. I think they do a great job of making fun of everyone without creating those weird “am I allowed to laugh at this?” moments. Everyone is in on the joke. And Diane is tiny precocious perfection.

Lots of fall-infused fun this weekend! Hopefully I don’t sweat through my plaid.

Five for Friday

I’m trying to scarf down lunch, finish a work project, email Addison’s teacher, blog and catch up on my Friends marathon on Netflix all before heading off to car line to pick up Addison. Let’s get on with it, shall we?

1. Happy National Dog Day to this exquisite specimen.

maya

Allergies aside, she is the perfect companion and handles all of our neglect with the utmost grace and forgiveness. But the pool is never gonna happen, Clayton.

2. Despite all my hesitation, I took both kids to the museum this week AND stopped at the grocery store with them on the way home, even though it was past Addison’s nap time. It could have gone all sorts of sideways, but we made it in and out without incident! And then I picked up 24 ounces of positive reinforcement for myself.

Speaking of treats, Clayton played golf last Friday, and I was responsible for getting the rest of us ready and over to Addison’s preschool orientation on time. It’s still quite the event to wrangle all of us into something presentable and arrive anywhere punctually, so I was handsomely rewarded for my efforts. Bribery is the key to any successful relationship.

3. Addison started K3 this week. It’s going to be an adjustment for all of us—new schedule, new classroom, new teacher, new friends–and I don’t think I realized just how startling that was going to be for her until after her first day. The bear hug and “I missed you Mommy!” warranted nothing less than an immediate cake pop.

addison first day2 Maybe by kindergarten I’ll be able to brush her hair without a steel cage death match.

4. We had the “jumping gym” to ourselves this week. It was the best of times…

it was the worst of times.

5. Clayton came home last night and told Addison, “I have a new pet for you.” Listening from the other room, my oh-no-you-didn’t index finger instinctively started wagging as I bolted onto the patio. Thankfully my husband did not have the death wish I was imagining and the new pet fit on the lid of his coffee thermos.

Meet Annie the ladybug.

She has since taken a toddler-initiated trip over the pool fence and is probably, uh, resting peacefully in the pool.

I suggested Clayton play some more golf this weekend, so I am expecting at least another dozen pieces of gourmet chocolate heading my way very soon. Cheers to a delicious, manipulative weekend!

Five for Friday

1. This cheeky little list notebook from my second home.

2. The only candles I’ve ever found that are strong enough for our main living area (family room, kitchen and living room are all open to each other) are the Bath and Body Works 3-wick candles. They are stupid expensive, so I was giddy when I saw them on clearance for 50% off. It was exceptional timing since the trash was rancid. I went home, fired up one of those bad boys, waited for Clayton to get home and made him take the trash out.

3. We hit up the zoo last Friday in the late afternoon and the orangutan was all, “Make this show worth my while, suckers.” Addison and I have been throwing this hand motion at each other randomly ever since.

4. SMILES!

5. The Bachelorette is annoying me to no end. Not even because of all the making out and sex, but all the cliffhangers are obnoxious and the dude drama seems completely contrived (looking at you Clint and JJ). But alas, I will suffer for my addiction.

Off the faves list: Chris, the Nauseatingly Sweet Dentist.

Added to the faves even though they will definitely not be in the final episodes: Self-deprecating Tanner

and adorable, sweet and supreme Bachelor material Ben H.

ben hJury is out on Shawn. He’s getting a little neurotic, but with good reason, no?

And just…stop.

nick v noOkay. I feel better getting that off my chest.

I may be back on the paddleboard this weekend for the first time in like a year! Eeee! Hopefully I can locate some balance and cardiovascular endurance, which have also not been employed in the same amount of time.

Five for Friday

Someone is fussing up a storm and looking right at me like I’m responsible for righting the whole situation, so enjoy some tidbits from this week while I tend to the tiny boss of the house.

1. Eating my feelings during a disappointing Game 6. However, I think the Lightning have at least one new legitimate fan after that playoff run. I’ve also started to come around to the idea of taking Addie ice skating soon despite the threat of razor sharp blades inches from her delicate baby skin.

2. I decided to work on a few projects over the last two weeks, and every day is take your baby to work day.

3. There are not many joys greater than that of an unexpected chocolate chip cookie. “It’s the biggest cookie of my whole life!”

4. Season 4 is heeeeere! Happy Father’s Day weekend, Clayton. Hope your ideal plans involve binge watching a political soap opera and swooning over Jake Ballard.

scandal

5. As great as I’ve been feeling during this postpartum period, I can’t deny those wacky hormones are still bouncing around all over the place sometimes. Here are two movies that made me cry this week:

the croods

tinkerbell

Totally rational adult behavior.

Saturday Clayton has a free pass to spend all day away from his children celebrating the fact that he is a father, and Sunday we’re grilling out with my dad. Have fun spoiling the dads in your life this weekend!

Five for Friday

A little late today because, well, it’s my blog and I can be.

1. I cannot brag about Clayton’s dad skillz enough. He was a phenom with Addison for the week that he was off work, with a sensational culmination at Frozen on Ice last weekend. Apparently she loved it, especially the beginning when a mess of other Disney characters skated around, most notably “Punzel” (Rapunzel).

photo 2

2. I stayed home for a date with the other man in my life.

photo 4

3. Addison forgets about Asher most of the time, but every now and then we’ll get some sweet sibling action. And she always remembers to tell new people about “her baby.”

photo 5

4. The Bachelorette is back!!! And based on the season teaser, so is creeper Nick V.! That’s some serious Bachelor viewing candy right there. And if those clips are for real, homegirl gets busy way before any Fantasy Suite keys are on the table. Say wha?!?!

Kaitlyn was one of my faves from The Bachelor and Britt solicited massive eye rolling for her dramatics and full face makeup while sleeping, so clearly I’m pumped for this season.

My faves after the premiere:

Le dentist (Chris)

chris dentist

Cutie McHaircut (Shawn)

shawn bachelorette

Both of them are exponentially more attractive on the show than in these photos, btw. Not sure why ABC went with JC Penney portraits for their official cast images, but I digress.

5. I am feeling quite comfortable in my new seat on the Tampa Bay Lightning bandwagon. The Bolts are somewhere far along in the playoffs, and despite not knowing 80% of hockey rules, man are these games exciting! I certainly know how to scream and shout when that little puck hits the back of the net, so the rest seems extraneous at this point. Look at me being the thunder.

be the thunderHappy Memorial Day Weekending!

Five for Friday

Old pros that we are, this week has been surprisingly low key. Despite having appointments or events every day, we are managing well. But I am not about to get lulled into thinking we got this or anything. On the contrary, I am just shy of terrified of Clayton going back to work next week. He has been a superstar with Addison and around the house; she is going to be quite disappointed waking up to my old mug Monday morning. To forget any of that is happening, let’s chat about this week.

1. My view in the hospital. Not complaining.

Asher Clayton hospital Much lips.

2. My new view at night. Not complaining.

3. We had a quiet lunch at our place for Mother’s Day with my family. Can’t really top the gift I got this year. I still don’t fully believe I have childREN.

noas mothers day2 4. Just about the last thing you feel like doing six days after giving birth, but Asher’s close up was calling.

makeupWe had newborn photos taken and I had to determine how drug store concealer could help contour the five month baby tummy I’m still toting around. Towards the end I had to call it because my stomach muscles flat out refused to cooperate with one more second of standing.

5. Ever since we downgraded our cable, I like to watch my stories at 7 p.m. every night. I can feel the gray hairs coming in with each spin.

wheel of fortune

Hopefully this weekend will be laid back, maybe even involving some pool time for the Noas that have the all clear to submerge themselves in water.

Five for Friday

I thought it was Thursday every day this week. Not cool. Here we go.

3. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe: a nutritional account of my final weeks of pregnancy in four photos.

On tap for this weekend: movie night with “Beauty and the Beast.” Don’t be too jelly.
